Questions
60 answers, no coyness.
The things people actually ask, answered properly. If yours is not here, ask the concierge at the bottom of the screen or message the club directly.
Your first visit
What actually happens on my first visit?
You arrive at the door, staff greet you and sign you up as a member there and then. Bring photo ID. Once you are in, someone takes you on a tour of the club so you know where everything is, including the private rooms and any equipment you might want to use. After that the evening is yours. Most people start with a drink at the members bar and see where the night goes.
Can I just come and have a look, or do I have to join in?
Plenty of members spend the whole night at the bar talking and never go upstairs, and that is a perfectly normal way to use the club. The private rooms are there if you want them and ignored if you do not. Nothing on the door, the tour or the night itself commits you to anything at all. Come, have a drink, meet people, decide later.
Will anyone touch me or pressure me into anything?
No. Seeking consent from everyone involved is the club's most important rule, and it applies at the bar as much as in the rooms. Members who ignore it lose their membership. One reviewer described her first night as the most respected she had ever felt on a night out, and said nobody touched her until she went to a private room and gave her consent. Staff are on the floor all evening.
What if I get there and change my mind?
Then you leave, and nobody makes a fuss about it. Staff are used to first timers arriving nervous and would far rather you went home than stayed somewhere you did not want to be. If you want to talk it through before you travel, message the club on WhatsApp beforehand and ask anything you like. Most people find the conversation settles it either way.
My partner is keen and I am not sure. What do we do?
Come to a Newbie Couples workshop first. It is a relaxed evening of talk covering safer sex, online safety, swapping and how a club night actually works, with the option to look round the club afterwards. They have run since 2018 and are the club's most popular session. Couples who arrive through a workshop tend to walk in far calmer than couples who arrive cold.
I am a single woman. Can I come on my own?
Yes. The club is managed by a female staff leader and single ladies are welcome as members. If arriving alone feels like a lot, the Single Lady evenings and the Newbie workshops are built for exactly that: an informal evening covering clubs, consent, safe sex, confidence and what to wear, alongside other women in the same position. Message the club first if you have questions.
What should I bring with me?
Photo ID, money for membership and drinks, and something to wear that fits the night. Toys are welcome if you want to bring them. Condoms are free at the club so you do not need to bring those. Leave your camera at home, and expect to put your phone in a locker or the security box at reception before you go upstairs.
Membership
How do I become a member?
In person, at the door, with photo ID. Staff sign you up on a secure system and the only details taken are your full name and address. You read and agree the club rules before you join. Couples and single ladies can apply Thursday to Sunday, though not after 9.30pm on a Saturday. Single gents should email for an interview first and come on a Sunday evening.
Why can I not just join online?
Because character does not come across in a web form. The club wants to meet you, which is why every application happens face to face and why some are turned down. It makes the door feel like a short conversation rather than a turnstile, and it is a large part of why members describe the crowd as chatty, well presented and respectful.
How much is membership?
Standard membership is £40 for a rolling year, the same price for couples and singles, paid on your first visit. There is a discounted £20 rate for students and MOD90 holders with valid proof. VIP membership is £150 a year and is open to current members. Membership runs for a full year from the day you join.
What do you get for VIP membership?
VIP is £150 a year on top of being a member. It gets you discounted prices on certain entry tickets and guaranteed entry on busy or sold out events, which matters most on Friday and Saturday nights when capacity is capped. Numbers are limited and it is open to current members only. Ask at the bar or message the club to apply.
Is there a student or forces discount?
Yes. Membership is £20 a year for students and MOD90 holders, against the standard £40. You will need valid proof of eligibility when you sign up. The discount is on the membership fee itself. Entry prices for individual nights are set per event and are listed on each event page.
What is the 48 hour probationary period?
New members go through 48 hours after joining while the administration is completed and conduct at the club is looked at. It works both ways, as a check that the club and the member suit each other. If someone turns out not to be a fit, the owners or the club committee can revoke the membership, and that is without refund.
Can you be refused membership?
Yes, and people are. Applications are not judged on gender, ethnicity or social status. They are judged on your sense of fun, your acceptance of the lifestyle and whether you have made an effort with how you look. Members reckon most refusals come down to applying on the wrong night or turning up scruffy, both of which are easy to avoid.
I am a single man. Can I join?
Yes, though numbers are deliberately limited and only a very small number of single gent memberships remain for 2026. Email the club for an interview first, then come on a Sunday evening to apply, since Friday and Saturday space is tight. Single gents are a real part of the scene here and there is a workshop built specifically for them.
Can I bring a friend who is not a member?
It depends on the night. Some socials are open to non members, such as the Erotic Shibari Life Drawing Social, where members can bring guests and non members simply pay a little more on entry. Most club nights need membership or a place on the host's guest list. Check the event page, and message the club if it is not clear.
Practical things
Where exactly is the club and how do I find the door?
Purple Mamba is at the rear of 3-5 Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 5FF, right by Trent Bridge. The entrance is at the bottom of the alley. It is not on the high street and there is nothing shouting about it from the road, which is rather the point. Members describe the entrance as discreet but easy to find once you know.
Where can I park?
There is a pay as you go car park directly opposite the club, and plenty more parking nearby thanks to Trent Bridge. You cannot park directly outside the entrance because the access alley is too tight. A map is on the find us page. If you would rather not drive at all, several hotels sit within walking distance.
When are you open?
Thursday 8pm to midnight, Friday 8pm to 2am, Saturday 8pm to 2am and Sunday 6pm to midnight. Event and party nights can run to different times and different prices, so check the individual event page before you plan the evening. Workshops often run outside normal opening hours, sometimes in the afternoon or early evening, and the online ones tend to start at 9pm.
Is there a last entry time, and what if I am running late?
Last entry varies by night and the club asks you to check with them directly if you are arriving late, so message on WhatsApp before you set off. Some events have a hard cut off written into the listing. The Kinky Murder Mystery, for example, starts just after 9pm with no entry after 10pm.
Where do I put my bag and my valuables?
There are lockers inside, and reception has a security box for phones. The club cannot take responsibility for anything lost inside or outside the building, so treat it as you would any night out. One more thing worth knowing: any damage to the premises or equipment is invoiced to the member responsible.
Can I take photos?
No. Cameras and recording devices of any kind are not allowed, and that includes phones with cameras, which is all of them. The rule is absolute upstairs and lifted only by prior arrangement with management. Leave your phone in a locker or the security box at reception. Breaking this rule gets you removed and can cost you your membership.
Is there a bar, and is there food?
There is a fully stocked licensed bar for members, with non alcoholic drinks and coffees alongside the usual. Reviewers call it well stocked and reasonably priced. Food is not a standing part of the offer, although some socials have laid it on. If you need to eat, message the club before you book and they will tell you what that particular night includes.
Can I smoke or vape?
No. Purple Mamba is a no smoking and no vaping venue in line with current regulations, and that covers e-cigarettes as well as tobacco. The club has not published details of a smoking area, so ask staff on the door when you arrive and check the last entry time for that night before you step out.
Where can we stay nearby?
Search Trent Bridge Nottingham on Airbnb or Booking.com and you will find hotels and apartments within easy reach. The club also has a local favourite it recommends, a kink friendly venue with good transport links and private parking, and it can arrange special rates, so message before you book. West Bridgford's Central Avenue and Nottingham city centre are both close for food and drinks.
How do I get in touch?
WhatsApp is the fastest route, on 07837 346026. There is also a chat box on the site that reaches the club by email. If you are nervous, unsure whether a night suits you, or want to ask something you would rather not ask on the door, that WhatsApp number is exactly what it is there for.
Etiquette
What is the dress code?
Smart and sexy. Gentlemen want plain shirts or suits, with no t-shirts, tracksuits, trainers or football shirts. Ladies, think cocktail dresses and lingerie on a Saturday and date night on a Friday. Kink nights swap that for lace, latex and leather. Thursdays and Sundays relax into smart casual. Every event page states its own code, so read it before you dress.
What happens if I get the dress code wrong?
Management can refuse entry, and does. Work wear, dirty clothing and casual wear are not accepted on the main nights. Nobody enjoys turning people away, so if you are unsure what a night calls for, message the club or look at their Pinterest boards for ladies and gents before you leave the house.
Can I bring my own toys?
Yes, toys are welcome and you are free to bring them to join in the play. If you want to know more about what to use and how to use it safely, the kink nights and the workshops cover exactly that, including bondage basics, spanking, whipping and flogging. Staff will also talk you through any club equipment when they show you round.
How do I talk to people without being creepy?
Ask, do not assume, and take the first no as the answer. Members describe the crowd as chatty and well behaved with good boundaries, so an ordinary conversation at the bar is the way in. If approaching people is the part you find hard, the single gent workshop covers it directly: confidence, appearance and how to approach single ladies and couples.
Can we come as a group?
Large groups will not be allowed entry. The club is intimate and capacity in the members bar is capped, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. There is also a limit on the number of singles admitted on those nights. If you are thinking about a group booking, message the club first rather than turning up and hoping.
Safety and consent
How does consent actually work here?
It is the club's most important rule and it covers your conduct as a member both inside the building and online. Members must seek consent from everyone involved, every time. Alcohol does not override it, and the club is explicit that consent is not possible under the influence. Staff and event hosts are on the floor all night and are used to stepping in.
What happens if someone breaks the rules on consent?
Non consensual advances or activity towards members or staff can get you removed from the premises, reported to the authorities and your membership revoked. That includes online conduct towards other members. If something happens to you, or you see something wrong, tell a member of staff or the host on the night. They would far rather know at the time.
What is the policy on drugs?
No illegal drugs of any kind are tolerated. Anyone found with them is removed from the premises, given an instant ban and reported to the authorities. There is no warning and no second conversation about it. It is written into the membership rules you agree to on the day you join.
Can I drink? What about being drunk?
There is a licensed bar and members are welcome to enjoy it. Drunk and disorderly behaviour is not tolerated, inside or outside the building, and can cost you your membership. The club's reasoning is plain: consent is not possible under the influence, and drunk is not sexy. Some kink events go further and ask you not to drink at all if you are playing.
Is safe sex provided for?
Condoms are free of charge at the club. Nobody will tell you what to do, but the club advises members strongly on the importance of safe sex, and reception or management will answer questions if you have them. Safe sex is also on the syllabus of the Newbie workshops and the single gent workshop, which cover it properly rather than in passing.
Can I pay for sex there?
No. Selling sex or sexual activity for money or reward is banned on the premises and the club does not take it lightly. Anyone caught offering it is removed and given an instant ban. This is one of the few rules with no discretion attached to it whatsoever, and it sits alongside drugs as the two things that end a membership on the spot.
How discreet is it really?
The location is central but the entrance is down an alley rather than on the high street, so friends and colleagues are not walking past it. Membership details are never released to anyone. Members agree not to report details of the club or of other members to the media or to third parties, and they are held to that.
What happens to my personal details?
The club takes your full name and address at sign up, holds them on a secure GDPR compliant server, and does not sell or pass them to third parties. Nothing is ever posted to your address. Details are kept for one year, with email addresses kept longer only if you have asked to be on the mailing list. The club is registered with the ICO.
Nights and events
What is the difference between a Play Space night, a party night and a social?
Play Space is quiet and personal, with the club open for members to use the private rooms at leisure. A party night such as Sinsational or Venom is the full room: themed, dressed up, busy, often with live music. A social such as Sunday Sinners is a drink and a conversation in your own members bar, and it is where most new memberships get signed.
What is a Play Space night?
A quieter opening with a personal atmosphere, where the club opens for members to use the private rooms at their own pace. The club describes it as a better alternative to a hotel room. Membership is required, the smart dress code still applies, and entry is £15 per person. Bring your ticket to show on the door.
Some events say guest list only. How do I get on one?
Several nights at Purple Mamba are run by outside hosts, among them the Sexy Squirrels, Hotwife Soiree, Team Player Parties and RubberVesper. Those hosts run their own guest lists, usually through Swinghub or Fetlife, and issue a password before tickets go on sale. Message the host directly. Existing members can often attend without the list, so check the listing.
Is there a night for singles?
Singles Mingles, hosted by Peachy M and Linds, is built for it. You apply for the guest list with a short form, and if you are selected you get a password to book. Shots on arrival, hosts who introduce you to people, optional icebreakers, dress to impress. You do not need to be in the lifestyle or a club member to come.
Is it all play, or is there entertainment too?
There is far more on than play. Recent and upcoming diaries include live acoustic sets from Claire Shaw, Andrew Cox and Steve McGill, live magic, burlesque, cabaret, comedy, wine tasting, life drawing, a murder mystery evening and a clothes swap. The members bar has hosted blues nights and open mic sets. The life drawing social is open to non members.
Do I need to book, or can I turn up?
Book. Capacity in the members bar is capped, especially on Friday and Saturday, and the club sometimes has to turn away members who have not bought online first. Several events also need a guest list password before tickets are released. Pre registration through the What's On page takes a minute and saves you a wasted trip.
What is the Aphrodisia Festival?
Aphrodisia is a festival and retreat organised by Purple Mamba, held over a weekend in Nottinghamshire and next running 25 to 27 June 2027. It is pitched at the hedonistic, the kinksters, the alternative and the fae. Overnight retreat packages are limited and start from £150 per person, with each party package capped at 140 guests. Register your interest for the early bird list.
Workshops
What is a workshop, and do I need to be a member?
Workshops are teaching sessions, usually a couple of hours, run in the club outside normal opening hours or online. You do not need membership to attend one, which makes them the easiest way to see the place before you commit to anything. Prices run from £5 for an online session to £15 or £35 in person, depending on the workshop.
What happens at the Newbie Couples workshop?
An informal evening covering the basics: lifestyle clubs, consent, safe sex, confidence, what to wear and the rest of it. You will be in a room with other couples and single women in the same position. They have run since 2018 and are the club's most popular session, so registration is required. Afterwards there is the option to apply for membership when the club opens.
Is there a workshop for single men?
There is. It runs outside opening hours so you can see the club at your own pace, in a small group, for about two hours at £35. It covers confidence, online communication and safety, safe sex, personal appearance and style, and how to approach single ladies and couples. Past attendees rated the direct feedback on their online profiles most of all.
Do you run anything online?
Yes. Online workshops run in the evening, last around 90 minutes and cost £5 per person, with no membership needed. Recent subjects include unlocking pleasure and intimacy, covering orgasm potential, what intimacy means, sexual health and anatomy. Places are limited and must be registered in advance. Over 21s only, the same as everything else.
Access and inclusion
Is the club accessible if I have limited mobility?
There is a ground floor area with the bar, but the play rooms upstairs are reached by narrow stairs. Event organisers have said they will help where they can if you contact them in advance. For anything specific, message the club on WhatsApp before booking and they will tell you plainly what the building can and cannot do.
What is the age limit, and will I need ID?
You must be over 21 to be a member of the club, and you should bring photo ID because staff will ask to see it. ID is checked at membership sign up and can be asked for at events too. A small number of private events hosted at the venue admit over 18s, but full Purple Mamba membership still requires you to be 21.
Is the club LGBTQ+ friendly?
Membership is not judged on gender, ethnicity or social status. The diary includes a women only night for lesbian, bisexual and bi curious women, and events such as Sinful Sunday run as bi kink nights. Singles Mingles sells a non binary ticket alongside male and female. For anything specific about how a particular night will handle it, message the club and ask.
Are there women only nights?
Yes. Clitter Bomb is an intimate female only evening exclusive to Purple Mamba, for members and guests on the host's list, aimed at queer and bi curious women. It runs on soft lighting, cocktails, a glass of fizz on arrival and lounge space for slow mingling. Male staff may be on the bar and the door, but only female staff work the play areas.
Do you do anything for neurodivergent people?
Yes. Neurospicy Naughtiness is a social built around sensory needs, with a curated soundscape at a considered volume, plush seating, soft neon and hosts who understand neurodivergence. One couple's Google review says the quieter music and the organisers having experience of the issues they face is what made their first visit work.
Money
How much does a night cost?
It varies by night and by ticket type. A Play Space night or a Sunday social is £15 per person. Saturday signature nights such as Sinsational run £45 for a couple, £20 for a single lady and £55 for a single gent. Kink nights such as Venom are £40, £20 and £35. Every price sits on the event page.
Why do single men pay more than single women?
Because the club caps how many single men are in the room on busy nights, and the tickets are priced to hold the balance that members want. Single gent tickets on a Saturday are released in very small numbers for the same reason. It is the same thinking behind interviewing single gents before membership rather than signing them up at the door.
Can I get a refund or move my ticket?
The club has not published a refund or transfer policy, so message on WhatsApp before you buy if there is any doubt about your date. One thing is written down: if a membership is revoked during the 48 hour probationary period, that is without refund. Guest list events can also cancel tickets bought without the password.
How does the loyalty scheme work?
You earn one point for every £1 spent on tickets, plans and products. At 150 points you unlock 50% off all event tickets. Sign up as a member to start earning, then redeem through the club's app, which also carries discounted tickets. Regulars get there fastest, which is rather the idea, and it stacks with the birthday and referral rewards.
What else do members get?
A birthday discount if you tell them when it is, a discount for leaving a review online, and free entry if you refer a friend who is granted membership and comes to a Sunday social. Members can host their own themed party at the club under the Dirty Little Secrets banner with free entry, and can join the committee to help steer the club.
